The plan to achieve this goal is to create a database of EEG and EMG signals that correspond to arm and hand movements. Using this database, when a signal is received the arm will move accordingly. The aim is to make the prosthesis motions as smooth and user friendly as possible.<\/p>\n<h2>Deliverables<\/h2>\n<p>There are four deliverables for this project as follows.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\u00a0Move the prosthetic arm and hand smoothly.<\/li>\n<li>Read EEG and EMG signals and find patterns.<\/li>\n<li>Recognize and process EEG and EMG signals with a microcontroller.<\/li>\n<li>Use these signals to move the prosthetic arm and hand.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Milestones<\/h2>\n<p>Each deliverable can be broken down into two or three milestones as follows.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Move the prosthetic arm and hand smoothly.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Have the arm and hand do basic gestures.<\/li>\n<li>Have the arm and hand do complex gestures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2. Read EEG and EMG signals and find patterns.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Read signals using PowerLab 8\/35 and LabChart 8.<\/li>\n<li>Understand patterns and how to find them.<\/li>\n<li>Map patterns and convert to raw data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3. Recognize and process EEG and EMG signals with a microcontroller.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Build an amplifier circuit.<\/li>\n<li>Create a database with raw data.<\/li>\n<li>Develop algorithms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>4. Use these signals to move the prosthetic arm and hand.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Create algorithms to control servos.<\/li>\n<li>Apply corrections. (If needed return to deliverable 2)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Work Break Down Structure<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Smooth Movement<\/span><\/p>\n<p>1.1 Use microcontroller to control individual servos. (Green)<\/p>\n<p>1.2 Control multiple servos and create basic gestures. (Green)<\/p>\n<p>1.3 Smooth out movement by experimenting with different algorithms. (Yellow)<\/p>\n<p>1.4 Test complex gestures. (Green)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Read EEG and EMG<\/span><\/p>\n<p>2.1 Learn to use PowerLab 8\/35 and LabChart 8.<\/p>\n<p>2.2 Experiment with electrode placement. (Yellow)<\/p>\n<p>2.3 Map patterns based on gestures. (Red)<\/p>\n<p>2.4 Convert to raw data. (Red)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Recognize EEG and EMG with microcontroller<\/span><\/p>\n<p>3.1 Build amplifier circuit.<\/p>\n<p>3.2 Create database with raw data (accounting for gain)<\/p>\n<p>3.3 Develop algorithms to process data.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Use signals to move prosthesis<\/span><\/p>\n<p>4.1 Develop algorithms to control movement.<\/p>\n<p>4.2 Apply corrections intelligence.
